We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer! To continue the academic progress our students have made this year and prevent the “summer slide,” CLA provides summer work in English and math. The packets are available here and in the main office (summer hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and we recommend calling first so we can have the packet ready (216-229-8185)). Summer reading novels are also available at the library and in the main office. The packets are labeled according to the grade level students will be entering in the fall. For example, a “rising 6th grader” was in 5th grade during the 2018-2019 school year.
The books and completed packets must be brought to school on the first day of the new school year, August 12, 2019. They are for a grade and will be used in class.
Note that there are three options for the rising 8th grade packets. This provides students with an opportunity to read a novel aligned with their reading level. Students reading above grade level, including all students who would like to be considered for the honors English course, must read Fever 1793. Students reading below grade level should choose Nightjohn. Students reading on grade level should choose Elijah of Buxton.
