Dear CLA parents and families:
Our countdown to the American Institute of Research (Ohio’s state assessments) is in full effect! The importance of these assessments is paramount. The results of these assessments allow the state to monitor the academic performance of our students.
Our school-wide focus in preparing for the state tests is on building stamina, increasing students’ understanding and awareness of academic vocabulary, and building students’ confidence in their English, math and science skills. Stamina is essential for students to persevere through difficult reading passages, essay writing and math problems across a testing period. Please review the following information in order to support your child in preparing for these very important assessments.
When is the AIR (state test)?
|Tuesday, April 16||Wednesday, April 17||Tuesday, April 30||Wednesday, May 1||Tuesday, May 7||Wednesday, May 8|
|English – Part I||English – Part II||Math – Part I||Math – Part II||Science – Part I (8th only)||Science – Part II (8th only)|
What can I do to help my child prepare for the test this week?
- Ensure your scholar arrives to school on time every day so he/she does not miss any instructional time; if your scholar would like breakfast, he/she must arrive to school by 7:35. Students are late after 7:45 a.m.
- Ensure your child is reading, writing extended essays and practicing math problems throughout the next two weeks for at least 30 minutes. Talk to them about showing their work and what they are learning in school.
- Visit the Ohio Department of Education practice site and work through the questions with your scholar: https://login9.cloud1.tds.airast.org/student/V335/Pages/LoginShell.aspx?c=Ohio_PT.
Please be aware that once testing has started, students may not leave the testing room until the test is completed. Please make appropriate arrangements to ensure that no appointments are made prior to 11:00. These weeks we are also holding an attendance contest; please see the reward below:
- Any class with 100% attendance through the week (Monday-Thursday as there is no school on Friday, April 19) will earn a pizza party!!
Thank you for working with CLA and for your continued support in advancing the academic achievement of your child.
